Dynamics problem
The Rutland Steam engine pictured below could put out a total of 54,300 lbs tractive effort. (tractive effort = pull) In a steam engine, the pressure generated by super heating water pushes a cylinder piston. The horizontal motion of the piston drives a series of drive wheels. Assuming the wheels are in the position illustrated below, and that the train is traveling at a constant speed of 60 mph, please determine:
A) The angular velocity of the wheels.
B) The velocity of pt A ( relative to the locomotive) and the angular velocity of drive bar AB at the instant shown.
C) The maximum angular velocity of drive bar AB.
D) The x and y components of acceleration at B at the instant illustrated.
Bonus: To put out 54,300 lbs tractive effort, what would the steam pressure in the piston need to be?
